The French Official Playstation 3 magazine has delivered some tantalising information on the locales British archaeologist Lara Croft can expect to visit while pottering through Tomb Raider: Underworld, Eidos' tentatively titled Next-Gen Tomb Raider adventure currently being developed by U.S. studio Crystal Dynamics.

According to the translated French version of PSM3: "All the locations visited and explored in this game will be original [bar Croft Manor.] The story is set in present day and includes visits to Australia, Easter Island, Rome, the Vatican, Mesopotamia and the Golden Triangle. An underwater level is also anticipated"

Croft Manor does indeed make a comeback, but with a twist. "Completely remade, this mythical place will allow Lara to improve her training and her techniques and will also offer plenty of gadgets to boot."

The magazine also elaborates on Lara's new dual aim combat system, whereby her trademark pistols can handsomely dispense multiple bandits at once. Vehicles are back, with Lara's favoured superbike delivering our leading lady to the gates of the Underworld after solving a monstrous level-sized clockwork puzzle.

Following suit from PLAY magazine, Playstation 3 magazine lavishly describes a slew of new features including a brand new Next-Gen engine which uses a hybrid lighting model that combines dynamic lights with carefully created light maps to make Lara's world look stunning, alive and immersive.

Thanks to the folks from Tomb Raider Forums for their generous translation and be sure to join them as speculation on Tomb Raider Underworld continues to reach dizzying heights leading up to Eidos' official unveiling of the game in January 2008.
